Tomorrow is World Bee Day. Let us introduce someone who lives it every single day.
Tomorrow, May 20th, marks World Bee Day recognized by the United Nations and celebrated by beekeepers, nature lovers, and anyone who has ever paused to watch a bee disappear into a flower.
We wanted to honor this day by introducing someone who has become part of the Catermat story.
Meet David Zítek.
David is a beekeeper and the founder of the Včeluj project - a concept that brings bees into the corporate world in the most literal and beautiful way possible.
He places beehives on company rooftops, terraces, and gardens all across Prague. He organizes workshops where teams spend an afternoon making beeswax candles, learning how a colony communicates, and, for a few hours at least, putting their phones away to reconnect with something slower and more real.
At the end of the season, each company receives its own honey produced by its own bees, on its own rooftop.
When you think about it, it’s one of the quietest yet boldest things a company can do for its people.
We first started using David’s honey because it’s exceptional rich, vibrant, and full of flavors supermarket honey simply doesn’t have.
But we stayed because of what David represents.
At Catermat, we’ve always believed that the best ingredients come with a story. Food tastes different when you know where it comes from, who made it, and how much care went into it.
David’s honey comes from hives tended by hand across Prague and the surrounding countryside. A single bee visits up to 1,500 flowers to produce just one teaspoon of honey.
We think about that every time we use it.
The more time we spend around David and his work, the more fascinated we become by one thing about bees:
they never work alone.
A colony of thousands functions as a single organism. Every bee contributes its small part, none of them does it for recognition, and together they create something none of them could achieve individually.
That’s not so different from a great team or a great company.
At Catermat, we bring people together through food. David brings them together through nature. The goal is the same: real connection, shared moments, and experiences people genuinely remember.
If you’ve been thinking about doing something meaningful for your team something different from the usual corporate event we’d love to help create the right moment.
We have the food, we have the people, and this summer, we also have something new.
For events like these, you can now use our private courtyard garden, available for gatherings of up to 60 guests. It’s a place where, surrounded by greenery and good food, colleagues get to know each other from a different perspective.
And if you’d like to add a bee workshop to the afternoon, we happen to know exactly the right person. 🐝
